The incident took place in Litchfield County around 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the town of Norfolk.
According to Connecticut State Police, troopers responded to a crash on Route 44 in Norfolk, where Hartford County resident David Kulikowski, age 39, of Avon, drove his Toyota Corolla off the road on Route 44 and collided with a concrete barrier.
He then continued across the highway into the grassy shoulder where he struck a utility pole, state police said.
Kulikowski was injured during the crash.
During an investigation of the crash, troopers spotted a large knife inside the vehicle and asked Kulikowski if there were other weapons in the car and he told them there was a loaded gun, state police said.
Troopers searched the Toyota and found a Glock handgun loaded with a 13-round magazine full of .40 caliber hollow-point bullets, state police said.
Kulikowski informed troopers he did not have a permit and was arrested. He was charged with:
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle
- Illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine
